Electronic music museum experience at Our House

Our House Amsterdam

Our House is a major audiovisual spectacle. As it is presented internationally: the world’s first electronic music experience. The spaces are used for different purposes: a museum, a museum shop and a club.

First Impression worked with Our House on the complete experience within these three components. From interactive experiences throughout the museum to audiovisual experience on the dance floor.

Enter Our House

Visitors are immediately immersed in a visually overwhelming entrance with LED welcome displays, floor and wall projections. In the entrance, we see the wall projection with ’24-hour party people’ showing clubbers from all over the world and from different time periods

Flyer touch table

A large Displax touch table invites visitors to scroll through the decades to see famous flyers from that period. Dragging a flyer to a central ‘turntable’ plays music from the event. Two displays make up the touch table, but the interactive surface had to be seamlessly connected. First Impression therefore installed a single IR overlay over both units.

History Masterclass

In a separate room, we find a Samsung 2.5mm LED wall. Seamlessly integrated into the centre of the wall is a ‘floating’ 85-inch Samsung screen. This is where the History Masterclass is given, with some of the greatest DJs talking about the history of dance music.

Dance music quiz

Interactivity goes a step further with a dance music quiz presented through headphones and three Samsung displays combined with Aopen players.

Interactive festival globe

Another exhibit looks at dance music around the world, with an interactive globe by Pufferfish at the center of the installation. Other images in the same room come with an Epson projection on one of the walls and a five-by-one display wall consisting of standing Samsung displays.

The Sequencer: create your own beats

Visitors to Our House can explore the art of making electronic music through a small version of the Redbull sequencer. This allows visitors to compose and listen to their own songs through headphones.

Interactive vinyl player

For those more into listening, there are interactive record boxes for visitors to browse through. The vinyl covers are replicas and RFID-enabled. Once the record is inserted into a slot, it plays through JBL headphones while information about the song is provided on the display.

DJ Tutorial

If visitors want to make their own music, they can take a DJ tutorial. Experienced visitors can go wild on the four custom-made mixers. For amateurs, this set-up is a great introduction to the art of DJing.

The Culture Ride

In the final show, called The Culture Ride, the creators of Our House treat visitors to a breathtaking experience. A complete sound and light show featuring classic dance music numbers from the past 50 years and multiple genres. LEDs around the edges of the walls are synchronised with projections onto four surfaces, lasers and lights. Here visitors also experience for the first time the surprise of the vibrating and ‘falling’ dance floor.

The shop

After the interactive experience in the Our House museum, visitors walk on to Europe’s largest concept store dedicated to dance culture. We completed the shop with a giant LED wall that attracts attention.

Multifunctional environment

The uniqueness of this project lies in its multifunctional environment: Museum by day, Amsterdam night club Club Air by night. This is possible because all the museum pieces and sections can be disconnected in no time and stored in small, hidden spaces.
