As Europe’s largest fitness chain, with over 1,500 clubs, Basic-Fit has been a close partner since 2012. Together, we constantly push the boundaries of innovation, using the latest technology to elevate their clubs year after year. In 2023, we took a major step forward with a large-scale, sustainable upgrade across 290 clubs in the Benelux and France.

Efficiency through teamwork

This project was driven by a clear focus on teamwork and efficiency. We renewed the 3×3 videowalls, not only to extend their lifespan but also to cut down on energy use and optimize remote service capabilities. Every aspect, from transport to recycling, was optimized with sustainability in mind.

Extended lifespan: from 5 to 8 years

The original 3×3 videowalls, featuring 9 NEC displays of type X464UN(2), were designed for a five-year lifespan. Thanks to our service rotation system, we extended this lifespan to an average of eight years before the 2023 upgrade. When several displays in a 3×3 videowall failed, we replaced the entire setup with 130” LED walls or 98” displays. The working screens were reused in other videowalls where only one screen needed replacement, ensuring a smart and sustainable redistribution of equipment while reducing the need for new production.

Up to 69% energy savings

In 2023, we began a phased replacement of these videowalls with more energy-efficient 130” LED walls and 98” displays. In total, we installed 65 LED walls and 225 98” displays. Energy efficiency was the key factor in selecting these new solutions. The old 3×3 videowall consumed 1080 W per hour, while the new LED wall uses just 665 W per hour, and the 98” displays even less—only 330 W per hour. This results in energy savings of 38% to 69%. Additionally, the new LED walls have a technical lifespan of 10 years, doubling the longevity of the old setup.

Smart service with uptime guarantee

The real game-changer? Our new systems are remotely managed, something the old videowalls couldn’t offer. With our smart service, we proactively monitor and resolve issues remotely. Through our Network Operations Center (NOC), we can intervene quickly, saving time and costs while reducing environmental impact. By linking customer data to the hardware through the NOC, we also manage energy use more efficiently, ensuring the LED walls or displays only operate when needed—such as during club opening hours.

Smart deployment

The progress didn’t stop at the clubs; we made major advancements behind the scenes as well. Through smart deployment, we developed a clever approach for flawless global installations. By remotely supporting local installers in France in real time, we successfully upgraded about 130 clubs. Fewer trips from our base meant a significant reduction in CO2 emissions—a win for the planet.

Circular approach: disposal and recycling

We ensured that all old displays were responsibly disposed of or recycled. The displays from France stayed local, while those from the Benelux were recycled in the Netherlands—ready for a second life. Where reuse wasn’t possible, the displays were carefully dismantled and recycled.

Innovating sustainably for a greener future

Our longstanding partnership with Basic-Fit proves that technology and sustainability are perfectly aligned. By making smart choices in equipment, energy consumption, and logistics, we’ve not only improved the club experience but also made a positive environmental impact. At First Impression, we’re committed to delivering the best AV solutions while working toward a greener future.
